New Year 2009-2010

Welcome to a new year for the London University Swimming Team! Below is some useful information (I’ve tried to keep it brief) to start things off.

CONTACT INFO
There are several ways to keep updated with LUST goings on, firstly, this site which will be updated with details on dates, news, events and photos. We also have a facebook group which can be found by searching for L.U.S.T. or London Swimming. Also please direct any email queries to lustswimming@gmail.com. Between those you should always know whats going on.

TRAINING
Our training sessions are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7-8pm for competitive and non-competitive swimmers and also Wednesday 2.30-4pm and Saturday 4-5pm for competitive swimmers. The sessions are running from this week starting 5th October and you can try a couple of swimming sessions out before committing to the membership. Each session is a structured training session aimed at improving some aspect of your swimming ability and fitness. The sessions will be very busy in the next couple of weeks but things will calm down so don’t be put off by this.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership for the year is £50 which covers your entrance to the pool and coaching for the sessions. The committee will be available in the Energybase reception after each session to sort out the membership and answer any questions you may have. Membership forms are available here http://www.ulu.co.uk/content/index.php?page=83 or from a member of the committee. To complete the form you will have to have a valid ULU student or associate card for the 09-10 year.

SOCIALS
There are a couple of socials to kick things off this week, we will be heading up the the Duck and Dive bar after training throughout the week so you can get to know others in the team. Also, on thursday we will be heading out after training to get a curry somewhere close by to the pool. Arun and Louise have been busy planning lots of socials for the rest of the term and information will follow on these from him shortly.

OXFORD
On 24th October we are off to Oxford for a friendly gala with 50/100m races. The gala is very relaxed and is a good opportunity to get some up to date times. If you are not interested in competing then don’t worry - after we get the swimming out of the way we head out into Oxford with the other swimming teams for a social which has yet to disappoint. If you are interested in attending there will be a sign up sheet appearing at the pool this week. This is not a commitment, its just so we can have an idea of numbers and who is interested.

BUCS SHORT COURSE
The BUCS (previously BUSA) Short Course entry deadline is rapidly approaching. It will be held at Ponds Forge on 13th-15th November with teams from almost all the Universities in the country competing. Not only is it an excellent competition its also a really fun weekend. So, could anyone who thinks they may want to compete in this event speak to the men and women captain (James and Cathy).
